Your Voice

Little Lines – 06 It was your voice for me In its many expressions That silky, sultry, and subtle Alto Yet, firm and inspiring First, in the occasional tones And then, in its regular occurrence A daily dose of bliss, a special effect Like water on a parched land Echoing through eons of nothingness It’s […]

Change and Our Vulnerabilities

Perhaps, the sign that we are not going to change is that deep emotional sensation we feel, just after we’ve done it, that makes us so sure we are not going to do it again. “Walahi, I’ll never do it again.”, we say. By that feelings, we are so certain we won’t. It’s not like […]

His Handmaiden: A lovely Sunday Morning

It’s a lovely Sunday morning. You should be in church, physically, but COVID-19 lockdown has had a long toll on you, and you haven’t made up to two appearances since church resumed physical service. To make matters worse, church streaming isn’t clear this morning, so you have turned it off. Off you go to WhatsApp, […]

She Broke up with me and I said “Let Us Pray”

I remember this incident as clearly as dawn. It was a cool evening that day on the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University. A week before this, I had asked her to let us meet, as a final effort to resolve whatever was causing the over one month of ‘silent treatment’ from her. “So, what’s up?” […]

Actual Learning and Growth

I have always marveled at churches that have a different topic taught them every other week. Perhaps, because I attend one where teachings are mostly done in series. I have always wondered how easy it could be to follow through on multiple teachings. Like, how do you follow through? It could be that I am […]

Talking Stage

Little Lines – 05 It was then the talking stage for me The little conversations That grew into deep-seated ones Like daily doses of a rare elixir A mixture of care, concern, and Love It was the voice and words for me The many things we talked about The random songs we burst into The […]

Little Lines – 06

It was your voice for me
In its many expressions
That silky, sultry, and subtle Alto
Yet, firm and inspiring

First, in the occasional tones
And then, in its regular occurrence
A daily dose of bliss, a special effect
Like water on a parched land
Echoing through eons of nothingness

It’s how you call my name
And the many appellations
It whistles through my spines
Gosh, I live for them

It’s the songs for me
That you bust into as we talk
From apala to Afro-pop, to many gospel vibes
From Yoruba to English, to Spanish, ‘Despacito’
I’ll always listen attentively
Soaking in every ounce of melody
Too intelligent for only one human body
Too sweet to hear for only one human ear

And when in the field of work
To a patient’s ears, or a listening audience
That voice carries the same power
An assurance to a doubtful heart
And wisdom to their listening ears

It’s how you are free with me
Unburden, unbothered
From the posh to the streets
Like a home, we’ve come to build

In a thousand voices, yours will stand
In many moments, yours will herald

That voice, that bliss

I am the ImisiOluwa; and you are a voice I’ve come to love.
